Eternal India, raison d'etre for a new perspectives magazine

Cacophony, did you say? Here are a few more voices.
Staying quiet is as much an option as immigrating out to Canary Islands. Unilateral silence of some does not turn a noise into symphony. Just as, passive inaction, by itself, does not turn a discord into harmony. It is another matter that some do practice this therapy as a panacea; increasingly so, among the practitioners of statecraft.

So, here we are. Eternal India! What we chose to call ourselves says a bit about us and our concerns too. We are here to make sense. Make sense of all that is said and done about India. That would include almost everything that impacts India and how must India respond.

A lot is already being said and written about, you might say. But then, a great deal is also missing or not heard often enough. The discourse is somewhat tinted and skewed. Attributing expedient meanings to matters like plural culture, secular politics and liberal economics has become par for the course. Even whistle blowers are sorted as leftwing and rightwing. Referees to the political game, while they get to keep their garb, have all but joined the teams. Goal posts are now movable. Morality is an obscurantist obsession. Propaganda masquerades as reportage. To be fair is old fashioned. Labels like Left and Liberal are proudly donned by the great trapeze artists of our times who thrive for their rationalizing skills. Their disproportionate share of media space and time obfuscates. Their most popular way to eclipse the facts is by substituting them with opinion. And yet, when their wise prescriptions are turned down at the hustings, they seek to dissolve the people and elect a new one.

Free minds deserve better. EI will bring the finest minds of our times to the issues of the day. Month after month, it will serve facts as they are – bare; analysis, as it ought to be – rigourous; and, perspectives as are needed – insightful. EI will not be a hostage to political correctness. In English, it means calling spade a spade. EI wishes to be a robust articulation of viewpoints that challenge the current monopolists of the mind space.

The marketplace of ideas has a new, earnest and honest vendor.
Eternal India!
